"A beautiful and distinguished family.A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth."
Well. That's pretty much as vague as you can get. Yet somehow, still not vague enough. K. This book was good, no doubt. I might get a little rant-y in this review, but I really did enjoy this book despite the many ways in which it bugged me. First I'll just say that if you've never heard about this book, don't continue reading this review. Don't read any reviews actually, just go pick it up right away. Because that's seriously the only way that you'll be get the full experience. K so bye.
Alright. So here are some of the problems that I had with this book. Because its been so hyped up on the internet, and because everyone keeps saying they have "to lie" about the ending, ITS PRETTY OBVIOUS once you start the book that there's going to be some twist ending. And if you're anything like me, you immediately start looking for clues and signs to figure out what that twist might be. It's not hard to figure out, either. So then the rest of the book you're just kind of waiting for shit to go down, and not really getting "the full experience" of being totally surprised in the end. WHICH IS STILL FINE, because the book is still really awesome, even if you figure it out early on. But man, I really wish I wasn't such a little detective. I can only imagine how much better this book would have been if I hadn't read the "we have to lie about the ending" comments on the internet. GAH. SHUT UP. LOL. But k, one more thing that really irked me was the writing style. It was choppy and dull, which now, come to think of it, the dull part is probably intentional because it adds to the suspense and reflects the character themes.. okaaay, that's actually pretty cool and smart I guess.. BUT STILL it read so slow. Which isn't fun. That ending thooough, woooow. Even though I knew what was going to happen, it was still pretty emotional, and I even shed a couple tears, so that was cool. Plus the characters were super neat, and it was interesting to see the family dynamics unfold. So overall, it was a pretty sweet book, even though there were a couple issues.
IT WAS GOOOOOD, go pick it up. Sorry if this was a little spoiler-y, but I tried to warn ya in the first little bit up there. Is anyone even reading this though? Am I just talking to myself? LOL probably. Cool :)
