ALRIGHT well I'm defo the last person on the planet to read this... LOL ya I've never read the books, and I'm only vaguely familiar with the films. Sometimes I feel like the worst book nerd ever, because I've never really even been into the whole wizarding world... LIKE I tried starting the series a few years ago, and I read books 1 and 2, but they just weren't doing it for me! Agggghh, blasphemous, I know, but those first two are definitely very middle grade, and that's a genre I just can't seem to get into as a "mature reader." BUT I thought I'd give this one a go because, oddly enough, I was looking for an audio book to try out and I thought some Harry Potter would be a good intro to that format (since I already have a bit of background info on story, which I thought would help me follow along). The audio book was not too bad, but it definitely put me into a very magical mood, which then made me want to pick up the actual book. I ended up using both the audio and physical formats to finish the book.
Now for my actual thoughts and feelings on the book -- I'm not going to do a full review, because I only have a couple quick things to say about it. And also because I don't feel like doing a ton of writing LOL. All in all, I enjoyed this book much much more than I remember enjoying the first two. For some reason (which I think has to do with also watching the film so many times, being that is was my favourite one) when I read Harry Potter, it doesn't feel like I'm reading, or it feels like I'm reading very slowly and incompletely. That sounds strange, but that's how it is. I still enjoyed the story, and I loved learning all of the details that were left out of the films. All the info we get on the Marauders like woooow!! I just want an entire book about their time at Hogwarts. They're the coolest. Well. Remus and Sirius seem cool. James and Peter are lame. BUT YA. Loved loved Lupin and Black. ALSO I thought Crookshanks was really awesome :) I loved the bit about him trotting up beside dog-Sirius when they were in the Quidditch field or where-the-fuck-ever, and how they were working together throughout almost the entire book. So cute!!
I don't want to say anything too soon, but I think I am starting to get into this series! The magical-ness is really starting to come though, and the storyline is getting more dark and serious so WHEU. I've started reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and since its pretty HUGE, there are already so many details and plot points that didn't make it into the film, and it actually feels like I'm reading something new and exciting. So that's totally awesome and enjoyable.
