"For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon. But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks. Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined."
So this was my third time reading this book, and I still looooved it! The first time I read it, a couple years ago, I was so sceptical because I thought it sounded kind of silly, but then wowowow after I finished it i couldn't get enough! Its so fluffy and entertaining and full of girly goodness. I was so ready and excited to pick up the next book, but then I discovered that it wouldn't be coming out for another year.. Ya. Heartbroken. So I waited A WHOLE YEAR and then re-read it again before the starting the second book, The Elite. Then I had to wait ANOTHER YEAR, which brings us to the present, for the third and final book to come out, The One. So ya, in preparation for The One, I re-read this and will be re-reading The Elite so that I get the full experience. They're super quick books, and like I mentioned, fluffy, light, and wildly entertaining! I'll do a quick little review of this one, even though I already wrote one forever ago on my old blog. Its just too cute and fun that I can't NOT talk about :)
This book is definitely not a serious piece of literature, and while the writing flows great and is easy to follow, you can't really say that its anything spectacular. But if you keep that in mind, and just read it for what it is, something fun and sweet, then you can really get into it and enjoy it. Because honestly, you can't take a competition to be the next princess too seriously, but woooow, is it ever cute and entertaining! What girl doesn't dream of being a princess one day? Getting fitted for pretty dresses, and living in a giant, extravagant palace with a hot prince. Ya. Sounds awesome to me. The main character America (and I'm not even going to get into how stupid I think that name is, cause whatever) is pretty much your average girl, who doesn't think she's that special (um hi, which girl doesn't relate to that), but somehow almost everyone around her thinks she's wonderful. LOL, everyone likes to read about "the underdog" who comes out on top. Everyone. Cause we all feel like underdogs in someway, and nothing is better than reading about them kicking ass and beating out people "above them." Does that give anything away? Mmm maybe, but I mean it's not hard to guess that she obviously does well in the competition. So whatevaaa. The last thing I'll say about this book is that all the little drama bits between the girls, and all the cute moments between America and the boyzz were just so awesome. LOL like I was giggling and squealing the whole way through. Love a book that actually makes me react out-loud, it always adds to the experience.
This book is soooooooo fantastic, and I think it really says something that even though this was my third time reading it, I still loved it, and maybe enjoyed it even more than the first two times! A book that can keep you smiling over and over again is the best kind of book. Is it the best book ever written? No. Is it still pretty freakin sweet regardless? UH YEAH. LOL soo obviously I give this one a 5/5.
Feelings when I finished the book:
yaaay Britney themed reactions lol
